Cops take marijuana plants, leave ransom note

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

In Marathon, Fla., authorities found six large marijuana plants growing in a vacant lot, thanks to a citizen’s tip. Nobody was around, so the police left a ransom note, offering to sell the pot back to its rightful owner. The officers left a phone number, but failed to mention they were, you know, the police.

The pot grower called them within 10 minutes, the Miami Herald reports. And was eventually arrested when he tried to deliver the ransom.

“If he didn’t show up, there would have been no way to prove who grew the plants,” Ramsay said. “The detectives left the note as a last ditch effort, thinking he would never call. But sometimes people do stupid things.”
