Iowa Republicans Show Historic Support For Medical Cannabis — Senate Minority Leader Bill Dix says “We’re very open to those discussions.”

Busy week. I’m a bit behind in my blogging — follow WeedPress on Facebook for more upcoming articles.

This is, in my opinion, the top story of the past week. From The Gazette on Tuesday:

Senator Minority Leader Bill Dix, Republican, District 22
Senator Minority Leader Bill Dix, Republican, District 22, said Tuesday that Republicans were not responsible for blocking medical cannabis legislation.

“Senate [Minority] Leader Sen. Bill Dix, R-Shell Rock, said Republicans aren’t responsible for blocking the legislation.

“We’re very open to those discussions,” Dix said. “It’s a new enough subject that a lot of legislators need to hear more about what needs to happen to address those needs in the future.” — Read full article here

So while Senator Bolkcom says no Republican lawmaker was willing to sign onto legislation, Senate Minority leader Senator Bill Dix says Republicans are willing to finally look at this issue and take it seriously. With the Branstad administration supporting medical cannabis, and Christian talk shows praying for the Legislature to legalize medical cannabis, I’d say medical cannabis activists have a lot to be proud of for their tremendous efforts over the past year.

Let’s keep the momentum rolling — follow WeedPress on Facebook. Activists are working the caucus processes and getting elected to party positions, fighting cases in court, attending legislative forums over the next few weeks, and continuing to do interviews with media from all over the state and country. Many are frustrated this past week — take a minute to thank them for their work. This is a long process, changing government, and huge strides have been made in a short time. Keep fighting the good fight — we’re winning.
