Luke 12 KJV
2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

You can, but only if you design a vape that is pre-programmed to light at specific times. You can’t actively switch it on, and it can’t generate fire.

What about those vapes that automatically turn on when you inhale?
We could design a vape that is pre-programmed to light for 9 out of every 10 seconds, but as a safety feature does not light unless there is airflow through the chamber.
We may need to get an expert on rabbinical vape law in here, I have so many questions.

Transcript if you don’t want to watch the video:
MADISON, Wis. — A Wisconsin church is using and distributing marijuana as a sacrament, and some city officials are trying to stop it.
To most people, it’s weed, but church co-founder Jesse Schworck considers it a religious sacrament and part of the worship at a Rastafarian church in an old storefront near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.
Its members use and distribute marijuana freely. That’s really the only requirement for membership.
“We all have to agree that we all break bread and use this one sacrament: cannabis,” Schworck said.
The church doesn’t try to hide the marijuana use there. It is very open about it, even smoking right in the window for anyone on the street to see.
Anyone can sign a card to become a church member and walk out with marijuana.
“I stand with Rastafarian religion all the way,” church member Jerry Sersch said.
Schworck accepts donations but doesn’t require payment.
“This is no different than a shop distributing marijuana.” WISN 12 News reporter Kent Wainscott said to Schworck.
“Sounds like someone that would be selling cannabis or giving it to the public — two things we don’t do,” Schworck said.
Wainscott was unable to reach the city attorney for comment, but city officials have reportedly ordered the church’s landlord to put a stop to the marijuana use.
But Schworck argues this is a fight for religious freedom.
“It’s not even an argument. It’s just reality,” he said.
Schworck said he will ask a federal court for an injunction to stop what he describes as harassment from the city of Madison.

Lol yup. By the way which bathroom do you plan on using I need to know this. It is super important to all that is sacred. I should worry about the civilian deaths in the Middle East but I can’t focus on that until I know what bathroom you plan on using and what genitalia you have.

Why do right wingers care so much about the publics genitals?
level 5
29 points · 9 hours ago
I live in an extremely conservative, right-wing state. I don’t fall into that category, but I talk with these people every day. The only thing they actually care about is people with penises trying to use the women’s bathrooms, particularly in high schools.
level 6
16 points · 8 hours ago
They are pressumably worried about sexual assault but I’ve yet to hear any reports of a transwoman using the bathroom in order to do this.
level 7
22 points · 8 hours ago
Yet their solution is to have trans men in the women’s room and trans women in the men’s room.
“I don’t want a man with my little girl” They say, as they kick out the person with boobs and send in the person with an Adam’s apple.
level 8

Exactly. It’s counterintuitive. They’re just plain hateful. It’s the same type of argument made about gay marriage being used to get tax breaks for wealthy males. It’s not about the argument, just about putting people down.

I’ve heard this argument too, and it doesn’t make any sense to me. If someone is going to commit sexual assault why would a sign on the bathroom door stop them?
level 8
It won’t. But they can use the talking point to make life as a transgendered person harder. That’s all. I’ve witnessed a transgendered man clean a woman’s bathroom and get screamed and chased out even though they were doing their job. There’s no where that these people will be pleased because they don’t even understand what they are asking for.

The worry isn’t about transwomen using the women’s bathrooms. It’s about men pretending to be transwomen in order to use the women’s bathrooms or locker rooms. I disagree with all the conservative bullshit in my state, it’s frustrating as all hell. But I admit I understand the worry about a teenage boy claiming to be transwoman in order to use the girl’s bathrooms or locker rooms. I don’t know if it’s normal in other places, but in my high school locker rooms, you showered in an open room with like 6 shower heads and zero privacy.
level 8
29 points · 8 hours ago
Are there no lesbians in highschool anymore? If the right would admit they just fundamentally don’t understand the LGBT community I’d be a little more understanding. Also there’s a major difference between being a transwoman and a boy in a wig who’s only objective is to get into the women’s locker room. Also creeps exist. There’s no doubt. But they can still enter a locker room during class and hide in a locker. This argument is just to constantly have trans and predator in the same sentence
level 9
3 points · 5 hours ago
I’m certainly not part of the right. I would definitely consider myself way more left-leaning. That being said I’ll be the first to admit I don’t understand the LGBT community. I only know one gay person and he’s my cousin and we get along very well. But I don’t know any trans people. So there is no way I would even pretend to know much of anything about that community. How could I without ever having been exposed to it? I live in an extremely rural area where it is extremely uncommon (or kept hidden).
I always try my hardest to keep an open mind and didn’t mean any harm by my previous comment. I was ostracized in high school and very much a loner and everyone made fun of me and I didn’t play sports. That much I can relate to and empathize with.
I fuckin hated showering after gym class in high school because I had to share showers with a bunch of naked teenage guys. It was already extremely uncomfortable and that absolutely would have been amplified if we would have had a trans person that also showered with us. I was made fun of and picked on and teased in the locker rooms. I can say with certainty that where I grew up, a trans person would have had an even rougher time than I did in the boys locker room. I don’t agree with the mindset around here or the complete lack of understanding, but I’m just trying to explain the trepidation of the people in my area. It isn’t necessarily fear about sexual predation alone.
Correct me if I’m way out of line here, but what does dressing like a girl and wearing a wig have to do with being trans? Girls and boys largely dressed the same where I went to high school. I have extremely long hair myself (down to my waist) and I’m a guy (who occasionally gets called a girl by little children because of the hair). My point is that in a setting like a high school, somebody is gonna have to decide what the “major difference is between being trans and a boy in a wig” in a particular school setting. Going back to my own high school as an example, if a boy was pretending to be trans to shower in the girls locker room because he’s a perve, some authority would have to judge whether or not he is just a perve or whether they were actually trans. You make it seem like an authority figure at a school would be able to make this distinction without any difficulty. In an area like mine where the lgbt community is practically nonexistent, do you really think this would be clear cut?

There’s a difference between being trans (living life as your preferred gender) and calling yourself a woman whenever you want to go perv on some people. It’s not that hard to figure out that the person minding their own business isn’t there to perv on people while the person perving on people doesn’t belong.

You know in order to claim to be trans, they’d have to present as a female, right? Like dress like one. Trans people already use the bathrooms they identify with and people don’t notice because of stalls. Its not just billy bob going into the women’s room.

While I don’t support the refusal of service on grounds of sexual orientation, it’s important to note that marijuana is illegal in Wisconsin. Religious freedom is not a valid defense for breaking the law; a church is not allowed to commit murder regularly, call it a sacrament, and be immune from prosecution.

Madison actually has relaxed weed laws from the 70’s. Not Wisconsin, just Madison you can have and smoke 2-3 ounces in your own home legally as long as you arent selling it. If you bring it outside they can give you a ticket though. Its kinda decriminalized i guess. Madison is a huge liberal city so I’m suprised there is literally anyone there that gives a shit about weed. They have pretty open Harvest fests and stuff down town where people smoke on the street and the police don’t care.

It’s a hebrew translation, where the word used can mean many things. Devour, consume, eat, meat, food, fuel. All are translations of the same word used in other verses throughout the bible.
Further, eating cannabis has the same effect as smoking it. So why does that pedantry matter in the slightest?
And specifically with the “poison ones,” most of those are beneficial in some way to humans as well in the form of herbal remedies.

Yep, the Supreme Court ruled in 2006 to allow the use of illicit substances (like peyote and hosca), for religious practices under the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Marijuana use is common in Rastafarian practices. If they’re not selling it or giving it to people outside the religion, then they are not violating the law.

Decriminalized doesn’t mean legalized. In 2015, they passed medical marijuana in Jamaica with pretty sparse restrictions. It was part of the recipe for Hebrew anointing oil… Christ means the anointed one. He went around sharing something that was typically reserved for preists, curing things that we might have called seizure disorders, or scizophrenia… which we know today can be managed with cbd. Cannabis should be the sacrament. Any form of modern Christianity is evolved from what the Catholic church bastardized into the religion of Christianity. They got a lot of things wrong that people still accept. Pushing out cannabis, from religious texts, was the precursor to the war on drugs.
level 4
12 points · 15 hours ago · edited 15 hours ago
It was possibly part of Hebrew anointing oil…
It’s to do with Kaneh Bosm which translates to fragrant cane. There are of course lots of other plants it could have been, with the most widely accepted being Calamus with some species of the plant having MDA effects. Think speed/hallucinogen, though more hallucinogen. Not sure if those species are native to Israel.
I know there was some studies way back in 1936 from a scientist, Sula Benet, that it might have been the correct etymology origin of the word but it wasn’t widely accepted by the academic community.
Here’s a Vice article about it. The Anointed One: Did Jesus Perform His Miracles with Cannabis Oil?

I thought that cannabis could actually induce schizophrenia in those genetically predisposed or even worsen symptoms in those already diagnosed? I haven’t heard of it being used for treatment for schizophrenia.
level 5
5 points · 16 hours ago
That seems to be a common misconception, though it has been argued.
Studies have shown a correlation, however, those same studies have found that people with nascent mental disorders are predisposed toward drug use. Thus, while the correlation could work either way, the evidence suggest that nascent schizophrenia causes drug use, rather than drug triggering schizophrenia.
Indeed, proving that marijuana could “trigger” latent disorders would all-but require proving that those disorders would have remained latent throughout life if the subject had never consumed marijuana.
The only source I’ve seen thus far claiming a causative link was a Canadian mental health pamphlet that cited no sources or studies. Happy to look over any evidence to the contrary and re-examine my position on the subject though!
level 6
11 points · 11 hours ago
I wouldn’t exactly call it a “misconception.” Although the evidence is not conclusive, cannabis use (product with primarily THC, especially high potency THC) during adolescence, has been linked with schizophrenia and increased psychotic symptoms in both cross-sectional and longitudinal research. The increased risk is strongest for those at genetic risk, and greater frequency of use and more potent cannabis increase the odds. The theory is that chronic cannabis exposure (high THC, not CBD) downregulates the endocannabinoid (eCB) system and this disrupts glutamate signaling, especially in the prefrontal cortex and limbic system. We do need more twin-informed prospective longitudinal studies to rule-out that the actual link isn’t shared genetic risk for both psychosis and specific patterns of cannabis use (heavy, potent cannabis). The research to date is strong enough (including the mechanistic studies) to discourage individuals with a family history of psychosis to avoid cannabis.
There is some weak evidence that CBD reduces psychotic symptoms, but larger trials are needed.
There is a rather large literature on the subject, but here are a few reviews:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29247465/?i=30&from=cannabis%20psychosis&filters=Review
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/30730563/?i=26&from=cannabis%20psychosis
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/30442059/?i=50&from=cannabis%20psychosis
Large-scale multi-site study linking cannabis (daily to nearly daily, high-potency product) to first episode psychosis (still need prospective, longitudinal research, but more evidence to discourage use in at-risk individuals):

Previous cases ruled that the Native American church could utilize peyote (containing mescaline, a class I) in strictly regulated ceremonies.
This church is giving members and walk-ins cannabis in exchange for a monetary donation, with quantity varying by contribution. That’s not a church, that’s drug dealing with extra steps.

Native American tribes are treated as dependent sovereign nations, so they get a pass on some things.
level 5

They only got the pass because the war on drugs made criminal a tradition dating centuries that harmed no one. If not for the relatively compassionate treatment by the Clinton administration, peyote cactus would be illegal.

The first amendment does not protect the religious use of drugs, nor breaking of most laws that aren’t otherwise specifically discriminating against a religion. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_Division_v._Smith
Congress passed a law called the religious freedom restoration act in response to Smith II that provide exemptions for peyote use, vaccination exceptions, etc. Many states have passed similar laws as well.

But through Prohibition when there was a Constitutional amendment banning alcohol, it was still legal to serve wine as part of Communion.
level 6

Prohibition was prior to the incorporation of the first amendment or the Smith II decision I fail to see the relevance.
Also the amendment allowed the banning of the sale of alcohol the volstead act actually banned it. The volstead act carved out medical, industrial and religious exemptions.

I don’t know how many times churches have to do this to figure out the government isn’t fucking around and will prosecute you. There are a few supreme court cases covering it and until cannabis is dropped from schedule 1 the legal issues around the religious freedom aspect of cannabis is not going to change.
By all means grow smoke and sell all the weed you want. The feds are not going to come down on you unless youre really slipping up. But distributing it in a church is just asking for trouble.

I’m inclined to agree with you. But unless the federal government changes its stance, the state I live in will take decades to legalize weed. The last time my state tried to legalize just medical marijuana in 2010 it lost 63% to 36%.

Rhode Island has a church that does this. A leader of the church is a candidate for governor each election as part of the Compassion Party. Last year they were arrested with 48 lbs for church use. https://www.necn.com/news/new-england/Police-RI-Candidates-for-Gov-AG-Arrested-With-48-Pounds-of-Marijuana-495201481.html
They have also staged open smoking events at a small national park in RI https://www.providencejournal.com/article/20150518/NEWS/150519313/13819
Leaders of The Healing Church of West Greenwich, which uses marijuana for prayer and anointing, said they have been holding daily novenas since Thursday at the Roger Williams National Memorial and that they were questioned but not arrested Sunday by a park ranger and Providence police.
They are pretty open and attention seeking, but they are also fairly chill, and at the least smartly entertaining.

There’s a church in Denver that allows cannabis during its private service, but they don’t distribute it. It’s been around for two years and service is held in an old church with a beautifully painted chapel. They have visiting hours where there is no consumption and you can tour the church. I highly (no pun intended) recommend checking it out even just to see the chapel. It’s called The International Church is Cannabis.

Let’s be real this is a weed store. But I definitely think if someone wants to smoke weed as a sacrament they should be allowed. I also definitely think anyone who wants to grow, smoke, eat, sell or share weed for any reason should be allowed. In a sane world this would be a non-issue
level 2

I wouldn’t say it’s just a weed store. Rastafarianism is more than a new age sect of Christianity it’s a distinct religion with pretty devout followers.
level 3
1 point · 6 hours ago
I know it is, but there’s no way these people are actually rastafarians, aside from maybe a few. That doesn’t change that i think they should be able to do it, it’s just silly that you have to be sneaky and try to take advantage of loopholes just to smoke weed
level 4
3 points · 6 hours ago
I mostly agree with what you’re saying, but I would argue most Christians aren’t Christians at all, so I’m not sure why you’re laying out judgement on these rastafarians when religion has its own meaning to individual peoples.

Rastafarianism is strongly tied to Jamaican black culture. A white person can declare themselves Rastafarian, sure, but it is generally considered offensive cultural appropriation.
And it’s unlikely his reasons were a belief in a black Jesus (totally true he wasn’t Aryan with a golden mullet) and belief that fruit of the vine was against god’s will led him to Rastafarianism. Pretty clear he just wanted to smoke weed- which, my belief system says that was always his right to decide.
