Minnesota Republican Congressman Says “No” To The Second Amendment For Cannabis Consumers

A Republican in Minnesota doesn’t want to talk about the second amendment.

At least, not yet.
Minnesota advocate and President of Sensible Minnesota, Maren Joyce Schroeder, reporting via Facebook, says Congressman Jim Hagedorn didn’t want to discuss the second amendment thoroughly earlier this summer. Here’s her take on the brief conversation:

Had an interesting exchange with Congressman Hagedorn yesterday when I asked him about second amendment rights and medical cannabis.

It took him a minute to realize I knew what I was talking about in that Rep. Hamilton reached out to his office for support on the issue.

I explained there is currently legislation in Congress to protect 2A for state authorized medical cannabis patients and asked if he’d be willing to sign on and support that, for the patients.

This is where I realized he has no idea what is happening and isn’t really interested in learning.

His response was that he doesn’t support recreational marijuana and medical is a states issue.

Huh.

No, 2A for medical cannabis patients is an issue that MUST be addressed by the federal government to resolve the problem. As long as the feds fail to act, we compromise the 2A rights of our patients.

It’s unfortunate our congressman only cares about 2A until it’s for a patient who needs to use cannabis as a medicine.

Second amendment rights have been talked about for years but not enough momentum to guarantee that genuinely sick patients don’t have to choose between Constitutional guarantees to freedom, and medicating with cannabis. As the future of marijuana plays out, expect this issue to not be ignored, but respected.

Eventually.
