150+ People Showed Up To Yesterday’s Hemp Info 101 Session; A $35,000 Per Acre Profit May Be Why

More than 150 people reportedly attended an info session on hemp yesterday evening.

Apparently Shenandoah Iowa’s local politicians want to make Shenandoah the hemp center of the state. I wondered when farmers would look at the profits, which long time colleagues have told us at WeedPress were around the $40,000/acre range. One advocate claims off of 40 acres alone, she was able to make enough profit to donate a half million dollars to the marijuana movement in her first year of business. She also said that in her opinion the hemp market would have extremely high profits for roughly five years before prices settled down and the market stabilized. I’m not an investor, but it seems that the part about $40,000 per acre profits rings true.

Organizers were hoping 50 people would show up for an informational meeting about, “Hemp 101” at the Shenandoah American Legion Country Club.

“It exploded. We thought we would get 40 to 50 people and it jumped to 150 plus,” Jon Stripe said.

“These small, rural communities, we need to fight for everything we get and hemp fits into the agriculture that we exist in,” said Gregg Connell with the Shenandoah Chamber and Industry Association.

Shenandoah is making plans to be a lead processor of the new crop when it becomes legal.

“Our plan is for Shenandoah to be the center of hemp for this part of the state; maybe even bigger than that,” Connelle said.

Shenandoah invited consultants with American Hemp Ventures from Colorado to help clear up any confusion.

“It’s an absolute game changer for these farmers,” CEO and President Mark Spoone said.

He said they help farmers and businesses get started with production.

“It opens up an opportunity on the agriculture side that hasn’t been seen ever with revenues of $35,000 an acre,” he said.
