Marijuana For PTSD Fight Not Yet Over — Here’s Why PTSD Was Rejected In The First Place

From MedPharm Iowa on Facebook comes this explanation about both why PTSD was denied, and how a new PTSD petition to fix this arbitrary language should get PTSD passed.

MedPharm Iowa

Unfortunately the Iowa Board of Medicine voted this morning to deny PTSD in a 3 to 4 vote.

Their reasoning was that the proposed condition did not include the wording “refractory to standard pharmaceutical treatment”. In other words, their reason for denying PTSD today was that the wording of the condition didn’t mention that patients would have had to try other pharmaceutical options prior to using medical cannabis.

While we are disappointed with the board’s decision, this is not over yet. We will resubmit with the clarifier and continue to provide updates.

The image above is of Dr. Lonny Miller (medical cannabidiol board member) delivering an impassioned speech to the board of medicine, focusing on medical ethics and the role of physicians in providing compassionate care to their patients, especially those with PTSD.

We appreciate all of those brave enough to stand for what’s right. MedPharm Iowa will continue the fight for progress.

Conditions can also be added legislatively. We encourage supporters to contact your legislators and encourage them add PTSD to a bill during this 2020 session.

Here are our legislative priorities this year www.medpharmiowa.com/helpiowans
