How To Get Your Iowa Cannabidiol Registration Card During The COVID-19 Virus Crisis

Much thanks to Joe Hooshook for the following information.

Click here for the Iowa DOT list of numbers to make your necessary phone calls for getting your DOT issued medical cannabidiol registration card.

The Iowa DOT is prioritizing the issuance of mCBD patient and caregiver cards, deeming it an essential service. When you apply with IDPH, you’ll receive this updated approval letter linked to a list of DOT numbers you can call to set up a priority appointment or to receive your card in the mail.
The process isn’t perfect, but IDPH is always working to help patients get access to the Iowa licensed dispensaries.

IDPH Joe Horshook statement

Joe also continued in response to patient questions:

Joe Hooshock To summarize: 1. Have your doctor fill out the form certifying that you have a qualifying condition. 2. Apply online using your phone, tablet or laptop. 3. Get your card from the DOT. Some helpful tips: If you are having trouble finding a doctor to certify, call the IDPH mCBD office, and they can direct you to a doctor currently doing telemedicine. Applying online is really fast–approval in 1-3 days. Call the DOT and tell them you need a medical cannabidiol card–they will prioritize you. All Iowa dispensaries are doing curbside dispensing, and they are working hard to take measures to protect patients from COVID-19.
Joe Hooshock Yes! If you are having trouble finding a doctor, call 515-725-2076. IDPH has a list of “opt-in” doctors including those doing telemedicine.

Patient testimony about getting access to Iowa’s cannabis program during this government shutdown:

If I may for those who are wondering how to get approved here is my story. I was hurt in 1979 and been living with pain since. My doctor has me well documented but her hands were tied as unity point has a policy of not approving any requests for the iowa cannabidiol program. I then messaged nurse Carey Lee who put me in contact with doctor Mary Clifton . Dr Clifton held a telehealth session with me and I paid a regular office visit fee. I was emailed the appropriate iowa paperwork. I then went to the medpharm site and followed the instructions and had my approval 2 days later. Simple as that and no more no less. As of this moment the iowa cannabidiol card is in the mail. Dont let your corporate doctor stop your pursuit of relief because they refuse to sign your paperwork. There are other options to end your suffering.

Joe Hooshock  the opt-in list is limited to doctors that choose to have their name disclosed. Some portions of the state are underserved as only 10-15 doctors have chosen to “opt-in.” However the telemedicine option helps. Once the legislature passes an updated medical cannabis bill, ARNPs and PAs will likely be able to approve patients.
Joe Hooshock Most of the DOT locations in the state are closed. Approved patients and caregivers need to call an open location that can either mail the card or schedule an appointment. The list of numbers to call is on the page linked above.
