Iowa Patients for Medical Marijuana co-hosted a 420 online town hall today and asked a good question that had an even better response. Thank you to US Senate candidate Eddie Mauro for hosting this event.
Our question was as follows:
“The federal government’s role in creating exemptions for state marijuana laws is already on the books. It’s the state’s fault, however, for not claiming the exemption. Title 21 CFR Section 1307.03. The STATES Act, House Resolution 2093 and Senate Bill 1028 is the best thing a federal politician can do currently to protect state marijuana laws, but, not enough Republican Senators have voted for it. Will you once elected add an amendment to the STATES Act saying the listing of marijuana as a controlled substance in Schedule I does not apply to the non-prescription use of marijuana when authorized by state law? That covers section 280e of the federal tax code, which would take care of the federal tax penalties so manufacturers don’t pass on the cost to patients who are struggling to stay involved in Iowa’s program?”
