Mark Langgin of New Frontier Action discusses medical cannabis developments at the federal level, and the importance of federal laws impacting Iowa state marijuana laws, on Fox 17. Here’s the link to this story:
Good job, New Frontier Action, in the Fox 17 interview.
Interestingly, WeedPress has a connection to New Frontier Action. According to it’s website, Eddie Mauro, who ran for US Senate as a Democrat, founded New Frontier Action in 2020.
WeedPress was contacted by Eddie’s campaign and invited to proffer a question during an online panel on April 20th with Eddie Mauro when he was running for US Senate. Our team at WeedPress took the time to emphasize just how important Iowa takes federal marijuana laws. Here’s the video of our question, and Eddie Mauro’s response below:
By the way, while I do realize our question could have been phrased better, I do think we did a good job. Campaign volunteers with Eddie Mauro’s campaign specifically requested our team make the question as difficult as possible at the time, as we were told Eddie’s campaign was looking to get into the nitty gritty when it comes to marijuana policy should he take office. We attempted to oblige the request for a difficult and detailed question:
“The federal government’s role in creating exemptions for state marijuana laws is already on the books. It’s the state’s fault, however, for not claiming the exemption. Title 21 CFR Section 1307.03. The STATES Act, House Resolution 2093 and Senate Bill 1028 is the best thing a federal politician can do currently to protect state marijuana laws, but, not enough Republican Senators have voted for it. Will you once elected add an amendment to the STATES Act saying the listing of marijuana as a controlled substance in Schedule I does not apply to the non-prescription use of marijuana when authorized by state law? That covers section 280e of the federal tax code, which would take care of the federal tax penalties so manufacturers don’t pass on the cost to patients who are struggling to stay involved in Iowa’s program?”

Iowa Patients for Medical Marijuana co-hosted the online town hall at the time, which took place on April 20th, a holiday that goes without explaining these days.
So, just a thought: years later we are seeing this article from Fox 17 that has Eddie’s non-profit connecting the federal and state marijuana issue years later. At the time, our wordy question was kind of cringe. But seeing Eddie’s people being in an article discussing federal marijuana laws importance to state level considerations we do not regret asking a wordy question during the online town hall.
Federal law education is the most impactful spot to move the marijuana civil rights issue forward, and has been WeedPress’s specialty for over a decade having realized this. States have a role in initiating the process of creating changes at the federal level, as Congress wisely passed laws decades ago to allow states to use existing processes to gain exemptions to federal marijuana prohibition laws. Thanks for paying attention to the federal impact on state laws, Eddie et al at New Frontier Action — we seriously and sincerely do appreciate it.
Not everybody immediately sees why federal law should be priority number 1 for state level marijuana advocates, but those who do see the importance and act are the ones who will solve problems for the voiceless and misrepresented/scapegoated legal medical marijuana users here in Iowa — users who currently number 8,000 and growing. Effective advocates have these WeedPress articulated legislative blueprints in multiple states for how to force their state to officially petition the federal government to recognize currently unrecognized rights for marijuana users. If your state passed a medical marijuana law, your state has a moral and legal obligation to use these blueprints, use these LAWS, to demand full protection of medical cannabis patients rights. Stop letting your state get away with negligence. Follow the work set out by other states in 2021, save yourself some grief, and get your federal laws under control by making your state become your ally and advocate. It’s not easy, but if we can get this far, you can continue this strategy in your state, no excuses. Get it done. If you have any questions, you know where to reach us.
