Retail Chain that pulled CBD has “no plans to carry CBD products at any of our Iowa locations at this time”

Previously on WeedPress, we reported that Shag Alternative Superstore, a former carrier of CBD products in malls throughout the Des Moines and Ames Iowa areas in this article: “Des Moines Area Shag Stores Drop CBD, Stating “CBD Is Illegal To Sell And Won’t Be Back On Shelves Anytime Soon.”

That was in March of 2020. In the spring of 2021, Iowa legalized some forms of CBD — although, Minnesota’s Board of Pharmacy is currently objecting to the legality of CBD sales due to how they are being marketed, so it remains to be seen if Iowa’s 2021 CBD law reform will actually protect CBD businesses:

In 2019 the Minnesota Legislature passed a law that says non-food products “containing nonintoxicating cannabinoids,” such as CBD, “may be sold for human or animal consumption.

“But the pharmacy board wrote in a Dec. 8 report that “the sale of products that contain cannabinoids or tetrahydrocannabinols (THC), extracted or indirectly derived from any type of cannabis plant, remains illegal under federal and Minnesota state law, with certain exceptions.”

Shag Alternative Superstores, for reasons currently unknown, has decided to stay out of the CBD industry. In a statement to WeedPress reporter and founder Jason Karimi, Shag Alternative superstores stated, “We have no plans to carry CBD products at any of our Iowa locations at this time.”

Minnesota’s Board of Pharmacy position on CBD being illegal under Minnesota and federal law is extremely likely to influence Iowa. If CBD sales people are yet again driven out of business in Iowa it will be because they put the cart before the horse and failed to deal with fixing the existing laws around CBD — but, they’ll claim they’re victims for their negligence, and expect sympathy. WeedPress will provide none, if that happens, and remind them that for years now we have asked CBD sales people in Iowa to lobby the Iowa legislature to legalize CBD. CBD salespeople apparently prefer to break the law instead of fix the law, and that’s a shame.
