Dear Friend, As a proud Iowan it pains me to say “I want to be like Minnesota.” HA HA! As you probably heard our neighbors to the North passed recreational cannabis and yesterday their Governor signed the bill! Oh to be a Gopher! Or a Missouri Tiger, an Illinis, — you get what I mean! Our neighbors have modernized on cannabis; giving up on outdated ideas and old canards like reefer madness that have gripped Iowa’s Governor and left Iowa behind. I am writing you now to declare Iowa too can pass cannabis reform. We just need to persist; to move the campaign forward as best we can. Time and reason are on our side. Patience and persistent will prevail! Thank you for participating in the Campaign for Sensible Cannabis laws in Iowa — and for many of you volunteering to help! This a member funded, grassroots effort to keep, or generate, a debate about reforming Iowa’s laws related to cannabis. As you well know, the Governor and the legislature are refusing Iowans the opportunity to debate the pros and cons of cannabis reform. Our goal for the campaign is to keep the issue alive until change occurs — Reynolds moves on; federal law changes or simply enough Iowans say we want reform. That won’t be easy and it won’t be tomorrow but it will come! In the meantime the campaign has a full plate of work to do including: 1. Continue training local activists, 2. Find and sponsor experts to talk about the benefits of cannabis reform, and 3. Simply present a modern perspective on cannabis that is shared by neighbors to the north, east, south and west! But we need your help to succeed. Please consider a small donation of $25 or whatever you can afford! Last year, our first, the campaign was endorsed by the Cedar Rapids Gazette and the Sioux City Journal. We also had: 1. Several great stories about the campaign, 2. Held the first statewide meeting with two Gubernatorial candidates present, and 3. Thousands of Iowans signed the petition to join the campaign. Please consider a donation to the campaign here and share the petition with others. When you go to the website you will find: 1. artwork to download, 2. talking points on reform and 3. helpful hints on spreading the word about the campaign in your community. Please consider a small donation of $25 or whatever you can afford and sharing the campaign petition with friends. Thank you Brad Knott President, FreetheweedIowa.org |
