Uh-Oh: Nebraska Marijuana Patients Call Sabotage – Lawmakers Fail Cannabis Commission

If you haven’t been following the Medical Cannabis Commission, the Nebraska Examiner’s recent article on the Medical Cannabis Commission (“Medical Cannabis, Liquor Control Commissions seek to combine resources as frustrations flare”). confirms what we’ve been saying for months: the Medical Cannabis Commission is unprepared, underfunded, and on a path to fail both patients AND voters.

• They admit they’re “struggling.”
• They have no funding for basic operations (website, application 
• They’ve enjoined themselves with the Governor’s office and DHHS
• They’re illegally restricting cannabis forms in their rules and regulations.
• They want to limit patient access to only 12 dispensaries statewide
• They must find a way to meet the October 1, 2025 licensing deadline as passed by voters 

As a reminder, Governor Pillen and Attorney General Hilgers urged the Legislature NOT to pass LB677, a bill that would have set up rules and regulations for a functional, safe and assessable industry for patients. They said “the Commission will handle it.”, and now the commission is failing. While they struggle, patients suffer.

We can’t let this mess overturn what Nebraskans fought for. Email the commission today. Demand transparency, compliance with voter-passed law, and real patient access. Even better? Attend the next meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd at 1pm, at the State Office Building in Lincoln. Public comment will be heard.
 

We did our part. We voted. We organized. We won.
Now it’s their job to deliver a system of access and compliance.
