New to WeedPress? This page explains what we cover, how the reporting is sourced, how corrections work and how to send us records.
What WeedPress covers
WeedPress: The Paper Trail covers cannabis policy in South Dakota, with regional coverage of Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. Its focus is how drug policy gets made and whether it works, followed through statutes, rules, agency records and court files. The archive dates to January 2010.
How the reporting is sourced
- Factual claims are tied to primary public records, and WeedPress links or uploads the underlying document when possible.
- The Records Library collects the documents cited in WeedPress articles.
- Before posting documents, WeedPress redacts personal identifiers of private individuals, such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, home addresses and names of minors.
- When the publisher is a participant in a matter as a commenter, petitioner, records requester or party to a case, the article says so in a disclosure at the top.
- WeedPress does not accept advertising, consulting fees, sponsorships, affiliate revenue or paid advocacy.
How corrections work
WeedPress does not silently rewrite published facts. When an article is changed for accuracy or with new information, a dated Correction, Update or Editor’s note is added to the article, and significant corrections are listed in the Corrections log. To report an error, email weedpressnewstips@gmail.com with “Correction” in the subject line, the link, the statement you believe is wrong and any record that supports the correction. Anyone named in a WeedPress article may send a response to the same address.
How to submit records
Send news tips and documents (court filings, agency letters, records-request responses and other public records) to weedpressnewstips@gmail.com.
