WeedPress corrects errors of fact openly and gives people named in its reporting a fair chance to respond. This page explains how to ask for a correction, how corrections appear on the site, how the right of reply works, and lists the corrections and updates published so far.
How to request a correction
Email weedpressnewstips@gmail.com with “Correction” in the subject line. Please include:
- the link to the article;
- the exact sentence or statement you believe is wrong;
- what you believe is correct; and
- any record or source that supports the correction (a court filing, statute, official document or other primary source), if you have one.
Every request is read and checked against the record. If the article is wrong, it will be corrected. If WeedPress concludes the article is accurate, it will say why. You do not need to be named in an article to report an error.
How corrections are marked
WeedPress does not silently rewrite published facts. When an article is changed for accuracy or with new information, a dated note is added at the top or the bottom of the article:
- Correction: used when the article contained an error of fact. The note gives the date, says what the earlier version said, and states what is correct.
- Update: used when new information becomes available after publication, such as a later court filing, a response from someone named in the article, or a change in status.
- Editor’s note: used for clarifications or context that do not correct an error.
Typographical fixes and broken links may be fixed without a note when they do not change the meaning of the article. Significant corrections are also listed in the log below.
Right of reply
People and organizations named in critical reporting are contacted before publication with specific questions about the points that concern them and a reasonable deadline to respond.
- Responses received before publication are included in the article. Responses received after publication are added with a dated Update note.
- WeedPress writes that a person “declined to comment” only when that person actually declined. If someone was contacted and did not answer, the article says that instead, and when and how they were contacted.
- Anyone named in a WeedPress article may send a response at any time to weedpressnewstips@gmail.com. Relevant, on-topic responses will be added to the article with a dated note.
Where the publisher is a party to litigation with a person named in an article, WeedPress discloses that relationship in a box at the top of the article and states in the article whether that person was contacted. That person may still send a response to the address above, and it will be handled the same way.
